Sedation Dentistry: What To Expect

  1. Your initial visit will be with our nurse who will review your medical history, provide you with pre- and post-sedation instructions, and provide you with oral medication that you will take about an hour before you come to the office.
  2. You will arrive at the office one hour before your scheduled dental treatment. You will already be feeling drowsy. Dr. Freiberg will assess your level of sedation and give you additional oral medications until you are completely relaxed. Special safety equipment will monitor your vital signs and a member of our trained team will be with you at all times.
  3. When you are completely relaxed and comfortable, Dr. Freiberg will attend to your dental needs. Although you may sleep through the procedures, you will always remain in a conscious state where you are verbally responsive.
  4. When your dental care is completed, your companion will drive you home to enjoy the rest of the day relaxing. You will also remember very little of your visit.
  5. The next day the effects of the sedation medications will be completely worn off, and you can begin to enjoy your healthy, new mouth.
